How do I upgrade to the latest version of EndNote? Will the upgrade affect the references and citations I created by the earlier version of EndNote?
Answer
The latest version of EndNote available to PolyU users is EndNote 21. Simply download it from the Library webpage. You can install it without uninstalling the previous version of EndNote. However, if you wish to uninstall the previous version first before installing EndNote 21, here are the steps to do so:

For Microsoft Windows 11 user:
For Mircosoft Windows 11 user:
- Search “Control Panel” via on the bottom left and open it.
- Under “Programs”, select “Uninstall a program”.
- Find and select EndNote in the list of programs.
- Click on the 'Uninstall' option at the top of the page.
For Mac user:
- Open EndNote.
- Click on “EndNote (version)” from the toolbar on the top.
- Click on “Customizer”.
- Click on “Uninstall”.
- After uninstallation, go to Finder.
- Click on Applications
- Drag the EndNote application folder to Trash.
You will be able to access all the references in your existing EndNote libraries after upgrading. Upgrade to EndNote 21 will not affect the in-text citations you added in your Word document too. However, we recommend you to backup (How to Manage References > Backup) your EndNote libraries and Word documents before upgrading for prudent.
